GotYou Telematics (Pty) Ltd — Reg 2012/177045/07
Effective from 16 May 2026
About this policy
GotYou Telematics (Pty) Ltd is a company incorporated in South Africa under South African law, dealing primarily with South African clients. This Privacy Policy is therefore based on, and complies with, South African legislation — in particular the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
This policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, stored, and shared when you (a) visit www.gotyou.co.za or tracking.gotyou.co.za ("the Sites"), (b) communicate with us by email, telephone, or WhatsApp, or (c) use any tracking hardware supplied or commissioned by us.
Personal information we collect
Under POPIA, "personal information" means information relating to an identifiable, living natural person, including (where applicable) an identifiable, existing juristic person. We collect three classes of information:
1. Device information
When you visit the Sites we automatically collect information about your browsing device: web browser, IP address, time zone, the cookies installed on your device, and the pages or products you view. We use the following technologies:
- Cookies — small data files placed on your device with anonymous identifiers. See our Cookie Policy for detail.
- Log files — record actions on the Site (IP, browser, referring/exit pages, timestamps).
- Web beacons / tags / pixels — record how you interact with the Site.
2. Telemetry information
Where you have a GotYou-commissioned tracking device installed, we receive telemetry data from that device. Depending on the device model and service contract this may include:
- GPS location, speed, heading, and trip data
- Driver behaviour metrics (harsh events, idling, speeding)
- Sensor states and I/O data (fuel level, door, panic, PTO state)
- CANbus diagnostics (engine hours, fuel rate, fault codes) where supported
3. Customer information
When you contact us, make a purchase, or use our services we collect: name, billing address, shipping address, payment information, email, telephone number, and any additional information you provide. Together with Device Information and Telemetry Information we refer to this as "Personal Information" throughout this policy.
How we use your personal information
We use Personal Information to:
- Fulfil orders (payment processing, installation arrangement, invoicing)
- Identify you and communicate with you
- Screen orders for potential risk or fraud
- Provide product or service information in line with your stated preferences
- Execute contractual obligations between us
- Notify you of service changes or new services
- Share specific information with third-party affiliates responsible for anti-theft, vehicle-recovery, and 24/7 monitoring services on our behalf
- Improve the Sites (anonymised analytics on browsing patterns, marketing-campaign effectiveness)
Telemetry Information is used exclusively to provide the contracted tracking, recovery, and reporting services — and to support insurance, compliance, or law-enforcement processes where you have authorised, or law requires, that disclosure.
Sharing your personal information
We do not sell, rent, or disclose your Personal Information to any third party other than:
- Service providers acting on our behalf (platform vendors, SIM providers, 24/7 monitoring partners, recovery teams) — only the data necessary for the service, bound by confidentiality
- Authorities responding to lawful requests — subpoena, search warrant, court order, or other valid statutory process
- Parties needed to protect our rights or property, or the safety of any person
All third parties handling your Personal Information on our behalf are required to do so in compliance with POPIA.
Behavioural advertising
We may use Personal Information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may be of interest. For background on targeted advertising see the Network Advertising Initiative's educational page at networkadvertising.org.
Data retention
When you interact with us, we maintain your Personal Information for our records until you ask us to delete it or applicable law requires deletion. Telemetry archive retention is configured per service contract and per applicable compliance regime (typically 12 months on-platform, longer where required).
Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- Be notified that we are collecting your Personal Information
- Access the Personal Information we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out-of-date, incomplete, misleading, or unlawfully obtained information
- Object, on reasonable grounds, to the processing of your Personal Information
- Submit a complaint to the Information Regulator
Requests should be sent in writing to admin@gotyou.co.za. The Information Regulator may be contacted at inforegulator.org.za.
Updates to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
Jurisdiction
Any dispute relating to this Privacy Policy, your use of the Sites, or our services is governed by, and will be interpreted in accordance with, the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
