Refuelling and fuel-drain detection

Fuel theft is the classic African fleet problem — siphoning at stops, short-filling at depots. Platform-side detection depends on the data making it to the server first; a drain in a coverage hole is invisible until later, if it's noticed at all.

How the logic runs

Fuel level is read continuously from the sensor (analogue, digital, or CAN).

The algorithm compares the rate of change against your configured thresholds for refuelling and draining.

A drain event triggers immediately on the device — flagged in the data stream, and can drive an output or SMS alert.

Thresholds are user-configurable per vehicle — tank size and sensor type differ, so the template exposes the parameters.

Why on the device, not the platform

Detection happens where the fuel is — on the vehicle. No dependency on live coverage, and the event lands in the record even if the drain happened in a dead zone.
